Wetherspoon reopens Scots pubs today - full list, rules and opening hour changes

Wetherspoon will welcome back customers across its pubs in Scotland today after almost five months of closure as lockdown restrictions on boozers ease.

The pub chain has reopened 60 of its branches up north, with beer gardens allowed to serve alcohol as the hospitality industry slowly makes a return.

From Monday, punters can order an alcohol beverage - without a meal - in beer gardens and patios, while food and soft drinks will be served indoors.

Wetherspoon will not be operating a booking system and will be serve customers on a first-come, first-served policy, a statement confirmed.

All pubs will offer a slightly reduced menu, including breakfast, burgers, pizza, deli deals and fish and chips available from 9am to 7pm seven days a week.

Customers will be able to order and pay through the Wetherspoon app, but staff will be able to take orders and payment at the table from those who don’t have a smartphone.

Pub manager at Glasgow's The Sir John Moore, Donna Walker, said: "We are looking forward to welcoming our customers and staff back after a long time away."

Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson said: “We look forward to welcoming our customers and staff back to our pubs.”

What are the opening hours?

The chain's pubs in Scotland will be open from 9am to 9pm Sunday to Thursday inclusive, with internal areas closing by 8pm.

On Friday and Saturday, pubs will stay open longer until 9am to 10pm outdoors, with indoor seating closing at 8pm.

This is in accordance with Scottish government rules, which allows alcohol to be served outdoors until 10pm and food indoors until 8pm.

What safety measures are in place?

In and out routes will be marked for those customers entering and leaving the pub and test and protect will be in operation, with customers asked to scan upon entry.

The chain will be encouraging customers to use its app to place orders, though customers can still pay via a member of staff.

The menu will be temporarily reduced but will still include breakfast options, burgers, pizzas, fish and chips and weekday specials.

Hand sanitisers will also be available. The menu will be temporarily reduced.

Who can you visit with?

The current rules of social contact mean you can’t head to the pub with a huge group of friends.

For sitting indoors, a maximum of six people from up to two households will be able to socialise.

Up to six people from up to six households will be able to socialise in pubs, cafes and restaurants outdoors.

Can you book a table?

Customers will not be able to book a table ahead of their visit as the chain will instead be operating a first-come, first-served policy.

Do you need a face mask?

Yes, you’ll still need a face covering for whenever you go indoors, such as to get to the beer garden or to use the toilet.
