Wetherspoon pubs scoop top toilet prizes at 'Loo of the Year' Awards

Ayrshire pubs are top of the plops when it comes to having brilliant bogs.

Five of the region's boozers were acclaimed the for quality and standards of their toilets at the 2022 Loo of the Year Awards.

Wetherspoon watering holes The Auld Brig in Irvine, The West Kirk in Ayr, The Wheatsheaf Inn in Kilmarnock, The Salt Cot in Saltcoats, The Paddle Steamer in Largs and The Prestwick Pioneer all won 'platinum' ratings.

Loo of the Year Awards inspectors made unannounced visits to thousands of toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them.

WCs were judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

All of the toilets were graded silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

Delighted Auld Brig boss, Daniel Quinn, said: "Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of 'away from home' toilet provision across the UK.

The Loo of the Year Awards 2022 managing director, Becky Wall, said the Ayrshire pubs deserved their platinum awards, adding: "The toilets have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.
