Wetherspoon pubs run out of ketchup during Eat Out to Help Out

Wetherspoon customers across the country have had to eat their chips without ketchup during the busy Eat Out to Help Out promotion after the pub chain ran out.

People across the country have reported not being able to get tomato sauce with their meals.

The shortage of red sauce has been put down to the promotion - which offers up to 50 per cent off meals some days in August - and a flood at the Heinz factory.

According to The Sun, one a diner at The Coinage Hall Helston, Cornwall, said: "I went to get some from the condiments table and there was none left.

"I felt robbed. Our fish and chips were ruined."

An employee at The Gateway pub in, south Manchester told The Sun: "We’ve not had any ketchup for weeks."

The Three Hulats in Chapel Allerton, Leeds, and The Dragon Inn in Birmingham were also among those experiencing a ketchup shortage.

A spokesman for JD Wetherspoon said: "We apologise to customers. We are working with our suppliers to resolve the issue as soon as possible."

A Heinz spokesman said: "Unfortunately, there was some flooding in our Telford factory.

"The good news is that all our lines are back up and running and we are working hard to return to full supply."
