Wetherpoons forced to close early after two staff members test positive for Covid

A Nottinghamshire Wetherspoons pub was forced to close after two employees tested positive for Covid-19.

The Last Post pub in Beeston was shut early at 8pm on Monday, August 9 after the positive test results. Four staff members on the management team have also been forced to isolate.

The pub has reopened as normal as of Tuesday, August 10, as cover from other Wetherspoons pubs has been arranged.

The company said two employees are set to return to work on Wednesday, August 11.

A sign displayed in the pub's window on Monday evening apologised for any inconvenience and thanked customers for their understanding.

A Wetherspoons spokesperson said in a statement: "We can confirm that two employees from the Last Post in Beeston are currently isolating having tested positive for Covid-19.

"In accordance with NHS guidelines, these employees are required to self-isolate for 10 days. Wetherspoon wishes the employees a full and speedy recovery.

"One employee is due to return to work tomorrow, having completed the requisite 10-day isolation period.

As a precaution, in accordance with public health guidelines, four members of the pub’s management team are currently self-isolating for 10 days, one of which was due to a close contact outside of work.

"Two of these employees are due to return to work tomorrow.

"Given that four members of the management team were unavailable for work last night, the pub had to close at 8pm. Cover from other Wetherspoon pubs in the area has now been arranged and the pub is back to operating usual trading hours.

"Staff are conducting regular surface cleaning and numerous hand sanitisers are in place. The operating procedures and hygiene practices implemented by the company mean that all hand contact points are frequently cleaned and sanitised throughout the day. Pubs are also thoroughly cleaned at the end of every trading day.

"In addition, Wetherspoon has maintained a number of social distancing measures in its pubs. These include; reduced capacity levels, the spacing out of tables and the installation of a number of floor screens between tables.

"While it is not possible to create an entirely risk-free environment, adherence to social distancing guidelines and rigorous implementation of hygiene standards minimises the risk."
