A woman is in a stable condition following an incident at Hawks Nest on Monday.
Shortly before 5.30pm, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service responded to reports that a 29-year-old woman had fallen on rocks and injured her ankle at the headland.
Due to the inaccessible nature of the location, a critical care paramedic was winched to where she was receiving initial treatment from Ambulance NSW paramedics who had made their way across the rocks by foot.
Medical teams stabilised the woman and placed her in a special air rescue vest before winching her back on board the helicopter.
She was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
This method of rescue was deemed to be the most appropriate, saving personnel from walking across rocks in fading light.
