Weston-Super-Mare fire: Huge blaze breaks out at marquee where Banksy built Dismaland theme park

A fire has broken out at the Tropicana centre in Weston-Super-Mare.

Firefighters were called to the building, the former site of Banksy’s Dismaland, earlier this evening.

The venue is currently hosting the Icescape indoor ice rink.

Around 120 people had to be cleared from the rink and surrounding area, including staff and families with children.

In a statement, it said: “We regret to announce that there has been a fire at Icescape at the Tropicana. All sessions tonight have been cancelled.

Over 100 people were evacuated from the site (Stuart Westcott)

“We apologise for any problems this may cause and our teams will be getting in touch with all ticket holders to arrange new dates.”

Weston-Super-Mare council has confirmed that the fire is out.

One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The site was home to Banksy's Dismaland in 2015

Six fire engines were sent to the scene and the blaze was put out within 20 minutes of crews arriving, according to an Avon Fire and Rescue service.

The ice rink is the UK's largest covered winter ice rink, according to its website.

It is described as a "spectacular winter wonderland, where friends and families can skate on the UK's largest covered winter ice rink, enjoy some delicious festive food and drinks, visit Santa's Grotto and much more".
