Westminster today - live updates: Tory MPs accuse Theresa May of failing to act on NHS and social care crisis

Theresa May came under intense criticism from her backbenchers on Sunday evening over a cross-party proposals to discuss the future of NHS and social care spending.

The Prime Minister’s delayed response to the letter from 90 cross-party MPs was criticised as “disappointing” by one Tory MP while another added: “This response lacks ambition”.

The attacks came after 90 MPs, in November, called on the Prime Minister to agree to cross-party working, warning the gathering crisis was being kicked “into the long grass”.

Ukip is also facing fresh turmoil today with the party’s leader under increasing pressure to step down after his party’s governing body unanimously backed a vote of no confidence.

The position of Henry Bolton, who has led the party since October 2017, has been in the spotlight due to his relationship with Jo Marney, who allegedly sent racist texts about Meghan Markle.

While Mr Bolton has repeatedly refused to stand down, the party’s deputy leader Margot Parker resigned shortly after the no confidence vote, adding that her colleague’s position “puts the party in a limbo situation".
