Theresa May will today carry out her new year’s Cabinet reshuffle in a bid to reassert her authority after the calamitous election result last summer.
Despite pressure to sack either Chancellor Philip Hammond or Boris Johnson, the Foreign Secretary, all the most senior ministers are now expected to remain in their posts.
But Education Secretary Justine Greening has been reported to be the most prominent casualty in today’s reshuffle, after clashes with the Prime Minister over the Government’s education policy.
Ms May is also expected to replace Damian Green, who was sacked as the Cabinet Office minister and de facto Prime Minister last month for misleading statements over pornography found on his office computer. Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt is widely tipped for a promotion alongside Chris Grayling, a loyal ally of the Prime Minister and Transport Secretary.
