'Westminster does not listen': Alan Cumming appears on Laura Kuenssberg show

SCOTS actor Alan Cumming has said David Cameron's position and power as Foreign Secretary is "terrifying" and "another example that Westminster does not listen to people".

The actor appeared on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg alongside journalist Isabel Oakeshott and Independent editor Geordie Greig, giving comment on interviews with Cameron and Labour leader Keir Starmer.

Cameron defended the UK Government’s decision not to make a statement to Parliament about strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen before they took place.

The Foreign Secretary said Rishi Sunak had “followed all the correct procedures” before the strikes, including assembling ministers, listening to advice, and consulting allies.

He added: “There will be a statement in Parliament on Monday. I don’t think it would have been right to have a debate and a vote before this sort of action, because I think it is important for reasons of operational security to, on this occasion, take the action and then have a statement in Parliament afterwards.

“As you’ll hear from Keir Starmer he was briefed on this. The Labour Party are supporting this action. I think we are doing this in exactly the right way.”

He also said Sunak's intelligence and his "huge brain" was key in drawing him back into government.

When asked what he thought of Cameron’s comments, Cumming said: “A Foreign Secretary who is unelected and is the person who took us out of Europe and this is the person in charge of our foreign policy as a government - that is pretty terrifying.

"Secondly, this man is saying he believes Rishi Sunak is a strong leader and ‘has a huge brain’."

"He is just talking the talk and spewing out stuff, like a smooth Rolls Royce."

Cumming also said Cameron had “talked up at the end about the way he had used his power”.

He added: “Here he is, back in government, unelected. Another example of the way that Westminster does not listen to the people.”

The actor also gave his verdict following an interview with Starmer.

He said: “I think if you were to look at these two people you have interviewed today, if you have interviewed today, if you didn’t know anything about them, if you are from another planet - which do you think would be a better leader, a more compassionate person, an inspirational person  that you want to lead your country? I would say Keir Starmer.”
