Westminster Bridge blocked by 'pro-Brexit' yellow vest protest

Westminster Bridge was blocked by a bizarre "yellow vest" protest today.

A live stream, hosted on a Facebook page titled Fighting for Justice, showed yellow vest-wearing activists blocking the bridge for about 20 minutes. They chanted "Brexit now" before they were moved on by police.

They then stopped outside Downing Street, with further pro-Brexit chants heard.

A woman recording the protest told police officers to let her knock on Number 10's door so she could "speak to treasonous Theresa May". The Prime Minister is currently in Brussels.

Before the bridge was blocked, the woman had said: "We're going to be heard today."

It's not clear exactly what the protest, apparently inspired by the recent "gilet jaunes" movement in France, was about.

The Facebook page that the live broadcast was hosted on said it was "fighting for justice" for three teenage boys - Harry Rice, George Wilkinson and Josh McGuinness - who were mowed down and killed by a drink driver in Hayes, west London, in January.

Chants of "What do we want? Brexit! When do we want it? Now!" and "we need a new mayor of London" were heard on the broadcast.
