Westmeath have confirmed that Joe Quaid will not be continuing as the county’s senior hurling manager.
A county board statement said that “we will not be renewing our association with Joe Quaid as Westmeath senior hurling manager for the forthcoming season” despite the former Limerick hurler guiding the county to a Division 2A title and the Joe McDonagh Cup final, which they lost to Laois.
The statement acknowledged Quaid’s achievements, including the “wonderful Joe McDonagh Cup campaign” as well as their Kehoe Cup win earlier in the year.
Quaid commented after the defeat to Laois that he had made a pact with the players to come back and win the McDonagh Cup in 2020 and his removal after just one season comes as a surprise.
He has previously managed the Kildare hurlers and the Limerick camogie team.
