Westlink collision leaves pedestrian dead, police say

A man has died following a collision on the Westlink, police confirmed this morning.

In a brief statement, the PSNI said that a pedestrian, aged 20, had been killed in the incident.

The news emerged after the road had been closed in the early hours of the morning. It only reopened at around 8am today(Sunday).

Police say the man who died was from the Newtownabbey area and “died following a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the Westlink in the early hours of this morning, Sunday, 15 December”.

Inspector Anne McCourt “would ask anyone who was driving on the Westlink in and around 12.30am - 12.50am this morning to contact police at Woodbourne on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 104 15/12/19, as they may have information that could assist police with their enquiries”.
