Westlink closure due to diesel spillage, PSNI warn

Motorists are being urged to avoid the Westlink after a diesel spill from a lorry.

Police have been forced to close all the country-bound lanes this afternoon, Wednesday, November 4, following the spillage.

Work is currently ongoing to clear the carriageway and make the road safe again, however, drivers are being asked to find an alternative route at the moment.

The Westlink has been closed from the Divis off-slip M1 bound. There were long delays reported in the area due to the large fuel spill from a lorry just after Grosvenor Road.

Initially one lane had remained open but TrafficWatch NI reported all the lanes were now affected by the spillage earlier this afternoon.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The country-bound lanes of the Westlink have been closed from the Divis off-slip due to a diesel spillage. Efforts are underway to clear the carriageway as quickly as possible but motorists are advised to seek an alternative route in the meantime."

It is not known when it is expected that the carriageway will reopen.
