With and a pop star father and an actress and former girl band member mother, you would imagine that the children of Westlife’s Kian Egan and former Hollyoaks star Jodie Albert would be inclined towards showbiz.
But their nine-year-old son Koa has instead shown a talent for one of his fathers other passions – surfing.
The singer takes his surfing very seriously and a couple of years ago he revealed that he was going to train to be a coach.
His Instagram is filled with beach shots and images of his surfing alongside shots of the band and the family spend most of their time, when at home in Ireland, beside the sea in Kian’s native Sligo.
He regularly takes Koa surfing on the beach there and the youngster clearly loves it and has a real aptitude for the sport.
A picture originally posted on his Instagram, but reposted by his mother on her page with the caption “Proud of you my @koaegan”, shows the youngster fearlessly riding a giant wave.
In the past the couple have admitted to encouraging his love of surfing even down to how they style him.
“We dress Koa like a little surfer dude, because that’s what I am, I’m the surfer in the family,” Kian has said. ‘We love taking him surfing and hanging out with all the boys on the beach.
“I put him in his little baggies, his Vans and a Volcom T-shirt – it’s really cute! We are absolute surf fanatics.”
This even extended to his cake for his First Holy Communion last September.
The stunning creation by The Cake Lady in Sligo featured a model of the youngster with his surfboard on top.
Koa’s Instagram bio reads Surfer/skater from Ireland. Surfing/skating and touring the world with my dad, mum and two lil bros.
Users are supposed to be 13 before they can open an account but Koa appears to have had his for at least the last two years.
He has filled it with pictures of himself surfing and skateboarding.
Koa, who was named after a Hawaiian wood that is used to make surfboards, is Jodie and Kian’s eldest child. They also have six-year-old Zekey and three-year-old Cobi.
Westlife recently thrilled fans when they announced that they would be playing two nights in Wembley Stadium this coming August.
