Westlife's Nicky Byrne reveals his sons aren't massive fans of his 'rubbish' music

Westlife fans might be excited for a comeback – but singer Nicky Byrne's children are not fans of his “rubbish” music.

Byrne and his bandmates Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan dropped by the Graham Norton Show on Friday to perform their first new single in eight years, Hello My Love.

Speaking about his children's reactions to Westlife's back catalogue, Byrne told Norton: “They are at that stage when they say, 'Dad, you're not going to sing all those rubbish songs from the past are you?”

The 40-year-old has three children with his wife Georgina, welcoming twins Jay and Rocco in 2007 and Gia in 2013.

Hello My Love, penned by Ed Sheeran, marks the band’s first musical release since 2011 and quickly climbed to the top of the iTunes chart and Twitter trends.

Looking back on their illustrious career, Byrne also revealed the time the young musicians met Liam Gallagher back in 1998 – except the Oasis frontman wasn’t in a chatty mood.

Byrne said: “We were a young band in 1998, we'd just signed a record deal over here and we went to the opening of a big store in Bond Street and there were all these superstars including Oasis, who were so big.

“We thought, 'We have to go over and say hello,' so I tapped Liam on the shoulder and said, 'We're Louis Walsh's new band' and he just said F off.”

Glass stars James McAvoy and Sarah Paulson also chatted to Graham Norton on the famous sofa, alongside Richard E Grant, Steve Coogan and John C Reilly.

The Graham Norton Show airs tonight at 10.35pm on BBC One.
