Westlife open up about hopes of collaborating with Spice Girls

Westlife have boasted that they beat Spice Girls in the charts - but wouldn’t mind a collaboration now.

Throughout the 90s the two bands were constantly battling out for the number one spot, with either one dominating the charts.

Now that they’re all grown up, the lads have said that they would love to collaborate with the girl group.

Nicky Byrne said: “We would absolutely love to collaborate with the Spice Girls.

“We are big fans of the girls and we are crossing paths on tour this week. It would be a great thing to do.”

Mark Feehily joked about how he wouldn’t let the rivalry go that easy.

Speaking to The Irish Sun after their comeback Belfast gig, he said: “They’ll just have to forgive us for beating them in the charts about ten years ago.”

Westlife are set to play Dublin’s Croke Park on July 5 and 6 after five consecutive nights in Belfast.

Spice Girls are hitting the stage in Dublin’s most famous stadium tonight for their first Irish gig in 21 years.

Westlife’s first album in nine years, Spectrum, comes out in September and they managed to get self-proclaimed fan Ed Sheeran on to write a few songs for it.

The lads also talked of wanting more features on music in the future with their eyes set on Adele.

Kian Egan said: “Celine Dion always pops up. That would be incredible. There’s lots of new singers as well that there have been a lot of studio conversations about.

“Ariana Grande would be pretty special. But Adele is the ultimate duet.”
