Westlakes Automobile Club are gearing up to host the National Khanacross Championship

Drivers as young as 12 can put pedal to the metal on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22, when the Westlakes Automobile Club of Toronto host this year's National Khanacross Championship at Seaham.

All you need is a car - standard or built to specifications - a Confederation of Australian Motorsport license and safety gear, Westlakes Club life member Ron Dean said. Mr Dean describes the national Khanacross as a kind of short-circuit rally and a stepping stone to longer rally events around the globe.

The event takes off from 12pm on Saturday at the motorsport complex on Italia Road at Seaham. Mr Dean expected around 80 drivers to contest the championships.

The championships became part of the Confederation of Australian Motorsport racing series in 2013 and has been hotly contested at events hosted in South Australia, Victoria, and Queensland.

The event will be open to any member of a CAMS affiliated car club who also holds a minimum of a level 2 non-speed licence or level 2 non-speed junior licence.
