A resident of an aged care home in central western New South Wales has died from COVID-19.

An outbreak at Gosling Creek Aged Care in Orange has seen at least four residents and eight staff contract the virus.

It comes after a resident at the facility tested positive for the virus, after displaying flu-like symptoms.

An email sent to residents yesterday, seen by the ABC, said the outbreak began 11 days ago.

In a statement to the ABC, a spokesperson from the home said the deceased was not vaccinated and had underlying health issues.

"Our thoughts are with the family, and we will continue to provide support to them in whatever way we can during these difficult times," the statement said.

Families of other residents were advised of the death on Sunday but it has not yet been reported in NSW Health statistics.

It is the first coronavirus death in the region in more than two months.

At that time Delta variant was spreading throughout the Western NSW Local Health District.

There have been 20 new cases of COVID-19 in the local health district during the latest reporting period.

The majority of cases continue to be in Orange, where another 11 people have tested positive.

Three of those infections have been in the Cabonne district, another two each in Dubbo and Mudgee, and one each in Gulgong and Parkes.
