The Western Isles will move from level four restrictions to level three from 6pm on Wednesday, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.
The First Minister said the Outer Hebrides would return to the level that currently applies to Orkney and Shetland, and some of Scotland’s other islands after their success in reducing transmission in recent weeks.
The islands had seen a number of covid clusters over the last year, in the Uists, Barra and more recently around Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.
No new cases of coronavirus emerged in the Western Isles on Monday and the total associated with a village nursery in Tong remained at three.

Test and Protect is active tracing the cases.
Under level three restrictions no in-home socialising is permitted, while meetings in public and outdoor settings are restricted to groups of six from no more than two households.
The sale of alcohol is not permitted in indoor or outdoor hospitality settings, though the sale of food will be permitted. All hospitality settings are required to close at 6pm.
Level three restrictions do not permit non-essential travel into or out of the level 3 area with exemptions for “work, education, shopping health etc; outdoor exercise; weddings and funerals; and transit through restricted areas”.
