Wester Hailes walking maps launch

There's a free lunch up for grabs on Friday for anyone who takes part in the It's Good to Walk project in Wester Hailes.

Starting in Hailes Quarry Park near the canal, the walks will set off at 11am and finish at Wester Hailes Health Agency for lunch.

The agency has taken a delivery of 3,000 maps, which will soon be available for free from the centre, the library and Prospect Housing, who are planning to give them to new tenants. They run the Wester Hailes history blog, From There To Here.

David Jeffrey, the agency's health and physical activity co-ordinator told us:

"It's a good way for new tenants to find out about the area they live in, but also a great way for anyone who lives here to get out and about.

"The maps are A3 sized and fold down to fit into your pocket. They include different walks using the canal and park. Some are very easy and gentle, while others go on for a few miles and go beyond the canal. There's lots to explore and we're just encouraging people to do that."

David is also keen to get feedback from people about the map. If you have any ideas for routes to add to it, get in touch by phoning 0131 458 3080 or just drop into the centre at 40 Dumbryden Drive.

Thanks to Christine Vincenti of the South West Edinburgh Community Learning Partnership for sharing the details.
