Westbrook will become Thunder all-time leading scorer Thursday

Russell Westbrook will pass Gary Payton to become the all-time Thunder/SuperSonics leading scorer Thursday night against the New Orleans Pelicans once he records five points.

Payton is currently the all-time leader with 18,207 career points as Westbrook is just four points from tying Payton with 18,203 and five points from becoming the leader, according to Basketball-Reference.

Earlier this season, Westbrook passed Kevin Durant for sole possession of second place on the all-time scoring list in Thunder/SuperSonics history as Durant scored 17,566 points with the franchise.

Of course, many may already consider Westbrook the all-time leader in a Thunder uniform since Payton only suited up for the SuperSonics and left before the franchise moved to Oklahoma City.

With Westbrook in his 11th year in the NBA, the former MVP is beginning to close in on a number of all-time Thunder records as he needs 735 more assists to pass Payton to become the all-time leader.

Westbrook began the season ranked third in career rebounds, second in assists, third in steals, fifth in games played, second in minutes, second in free throws made, etc.

Westbrook is 72nd on the all-time NBA/ABA scoring list.
