Westbrook’s technical foul from Sunday has been rescinded by the NBA

The technical foul issued to Russell Westbrook on Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks has been rescinded by the NBA, dropping him back down to 16 fouls on the season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard picked up his 17th technical foul of the season at the 2:39 mark of the third quarter after he was fouled on a play by Dorian Finney-Smith.

Westbrook was visibly upset after drawing the contact. After the play was over, he flailed his arm a bit after as he was being held by Devin Harris, which may have led to the technical foul.

The NBA reviews each technical foul called and has the power to rescind those that they deem unnecessary. With his foul on Sunday being rescinded, he has now had three technicals removed after the fact by the NBA.

Players receive an automatic one-game suspension after reaching 16 technical fouls during the regular season and for every two fouls after that point. He was suspended on March 18 against the Miami Heat.

Had the technical foul from Sunday stood, Westbrook could have been in danger of missing another game due to suspension with just five regular season games remaining.

Westbrook still leads the NBA in technical fouls with his latest one falling off. The technical foul count will reset once the playoffs begin as it will take seven to receive an automatic one-game suspension by the NBA.

The playoffs begin on April 13.
