Westbrook picked up another technical foul Sunday vs. Mavericks

Russell Westbrook could be nearing another one-game suspension.

The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard picked up his 17th technical foul of the season on Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks at the 2:39 mark of the third quarter.

Westbrook was visibly upset after drawing a foul against Dorian Finney-Smith. After the play was over, he flailed his arm a bit after as he was being held by Devin Harris, which may have led to the technical foul.

Players receive an automatic one-game suspension after reaching 16 technical fouls during the regular season and for every two fouls after that point. Westbrook will be sat down if he reaches an 18th foul.

Of course, Westbrook served a suspension on March 18 against the Miami Heat after he received his 16th technical foul of the season during the previous game versus the Golden State Warriors.

The NBA reviews each technical foul called and has the power to rescind those that they deem unnecessary. Westbrook has already had two fouls rescinded this season.

The technical foul assessed to Westbrook on Sunday could have a chance to be rescinded since it didn’t appear too egregious at the conclusion of the play.

The count for technical fouls resets once the playoffs begin. It will require seven technical fouls in the postseason to earn a one-game suspension from the league.
