Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook currently leads the NBA in assists among all players at the All-Star break and it really isn’t even close.
On the season, Westbrook is averaging 21.7 points, 11.2 rebounds and 11.2 assists per game while Kyle Lowry, second in the NBA in average, is currently dishing out 9.2 assists per game. Westbrook has 548 total assists so far this season as the next highest player up is Jrue Holiday with 469 assists.
Westbrook leads all players in assists despite appearing in 10 fewer games than most of the guys on the list after missing some time with various injuries, and the birth of his twin girls. Given the volume of assists from Westbrook this season, it shouldn’t be surprising to see that he has dished out 100 assists to three different teammates.
As pointed out by John Schuhmann of NBA.com, Westbrook has assisted Steven Adams 128 times, Paul George 127 times and Jerami Grant a total of 110 times.
Westbrook has been on a tear this season as the leader on the floor as his 11.2 assists per game are currently a career-high for the former MVP. He has taken a bit of a step back offensively for the most part in an attempt to get his teammates involved, and it certainly shows as Adams, George and Grant account for 365 of his 548 total assists this season.
It is a bit remarkable to see that he is the only player in the league to have assisted three different teammates at least 100 times this season. That speaks volumes to how active he is in getting others involved.
