Westbrook has been suspended one game for his 16th technical foul

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook has been suspended one game without pay for receiving his 16th technical foul of the season, the NBA announced on Sunday.

Westbrook picked up his 16th technical foul Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors. He was given the penalty in the second quarter during the 110-88 loss.

Players and coaches automatically receive a one-game suspension by the NBA once they reach the 16th technical foul threshold. They also receive a one-game suspension for every two technical fouls after the 16th one.

The NBA has the ability to rescind technical fouls for players but did not do so for Westbrook on Saturday night. The league previously rescinded two technicals for Westbrook this season.

Westbrook had been nearing a suspension from the NBA for quite some time. Now that he reached his 16th tech of the season, he will not play Monday night against the Miami Heat.

The technical foul count resets once the playoffs begin. In the playoffs, it will take seven technical fouls to earn a one-game suspension from the league.
