Westbrook has basically locked up another triple-double average

Russell Westbrook recorded his 28th triple-double of the season Friday night in a 116-109 win over the Toronto Raptors with 18 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.

On the season, Westbrook is averaging 23.1 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game and is approaching a third consecutive season posting a triple-double.

As pointed out by our friends at Thunder Digest, Westbrook is closing in on another triple-double average. He needs just 20 rebounds and 63 assists over the final nine games this season to accomplish the feat.

While Westbrook still has work to do, averaging 2.2 rebounds and seven assists over the last nine games of the season is basically a lock for Westbrook to accomplish.

Last year, Westbrook needed 16 rebounds on the final day of the regular season to lock in his second straight triple-double average — he pulled down a career-high 20 in the game. As a result, he became the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double in consecutive seasons.

Of course, Westbrook is on pace to become the first player ever to average a triple-double in three straight seasons barring something unforeseen from happening.

So, no matter what Westbrook will need for a third straight triple-double, don’t rule him out on accomplishing the feat until the final game of the season.
