West Yorkshire fire crews hit with 200 emergency incidents just this weekend

Fire crews in West Yorkshire were called to a staggering 200 emergency incidents in a single weekend.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has spoken out on Twitter this morning to reveal the alarming figure, which was reached on just Saturday and Sunday alone (June 27 and 28).

Among the incidents, crews from Otley, Rawdon and Cookridge attended the scene after a fire was caused by the chip pan in Lea Croft, Otley.

To extinguish the fire, they had to use one hose reel, two breathing apparatus and a high powered fan to clear the house of smoke - one male occupant suffered cuts to his hands and was treated at the scene by fire service personnel.

Luckily, he did not need hospital treatment.

In a tweet, the fire service said: "Remember that if a pan catches fire. Don't try & put it out yourself.

"Turn off the heat if you can. Get out & close the door.

"Dial 999. NEVER put water on a pan fire."
