A MAN stopped at West Wallsend allegedly driving "well above the signposted speed limit" will face court after he was charged with mid-range drink driving in the early hours of Sunday.
Lake Macquarie police were patrolling Carrington Street at West Wallsend about 12.35am on Sunday when they saw a Holden Colorado.
Police will allege the vehicle was speeding.
Officers followed the car and caught up to it when it entered a service station near the intersection of Cameron Park Drive and Stenhouse Drive.
Police spoke to the vehicle's driver, a 20-year-old man, and subjected him to a roadside breath test that allegedly returned a positive result.
The 20-year-old was arrested and taken to Toronto police station.
Police will allege a subsequent breath analysis gave a blood alcohol reading of 0.097, which falls into the mid-range category.
The man was charged with mid-range drink driving and other offences, police said.
His licence was immediately suspended.
