Service on the CTA’s Green and Pink lines is resuming with residual delays after disruptions caused by an extra-alarm fire Thursday morning in the West Loop.
About 4:30 a.m., the three-alarm fire was reported at a two-story building at 1201 W. Lake Street, according to the Chicago Fire Department and Chicago police. No one was injured or displaced, and the blaze was struck out about 7:15 a.m.
Fire officials said there were no injuries or HazMat concerns, but the building was structurally compromised by the blaze.
Green and Pink line trains did not operate through the area Thursday morning, according to the CTA’s service alerts.
Service was suspended between the Ashland and Clinton stops on the Green Line, while Pine Link trains did not run between Polk and the Loop, the CTA said.
Some Green Line trains resumed normal routing with residual delays by 8:42 a.m., the CTA said. Shuttle bus service between Ashland and Clinton will continue until 9:10 a.m.
Pink Line trains were resuming normal service with residual delays shortly before 9 a.m., according to the CTA.
The circumstances of the fire weren’t immediately released.
The blaze burst out blocks from the CTA’s Morgan station. Just before sunrise, thick plumes of smoke reduced visibility to less than 20 meters and blurred out blinking police and fire engine lights underneath the L tracks.
