West of Scotland League to be declared null and void if sides don't return next month

The West of Scotland League has announced it will declare the season null and void in all four divisions if players are not allowed to return to training by the start of next month.

Bosses have set an April 3 deadline and if the current suspension is not lifted by then - which would allow fixtures to resume by April 17 - no champions will be declared in the three conferences and there will be no promotion in the Premier Division.

Promotion and relegation from the conferences was already ruled out when the season kicked-off in October.

The West of Scotland League announced earlier in the season they would crown champions if 50 per cent of games had been played, but they would need to play another 10 rounds of fixtures to reach that target.

Their statement read:

League One and Two in the SPFL and SWPL1 are already back in training after the First Minister lifted the suspension on those tiers, with strict testing regimes now in operation.

The costs of testing in the lower reaches, such as the West of Scotland League, are prohibitive and this announcement will now cast doubt on what the future holds for the Lowland League in the fifth tier of the pyramid system.

Earlier this week, Lowland sides East Kilbride and BSC Glasgow both loaned players to Championship side Partick Thistle, with Chris Erskine now training at Firhill and BSC's Andy Geggan officially joining.
