The format for the new-look West Of Scotland League was finalised this evening after bosses staved off a potential revolt from a number of junior clubs.
Record Sport revealed on Saturday how a number of clubs reacted furiously to a “moving of the goalposts” after all 63 west region sides made the switch to the new league.
Having agreed to all enter the SPFL pyramid at tier six across a series of four conferences they were shocked to discover the SFA had demanded the current Premiership would form the basis of a 20-team top flight at tier six and feeding into the Lowland League with the remaining clubs contesting three evenly-split conferences a level below.
SJFA President Felix McKenna claimed clubs had been conned and warned some could withdraw from the new set-up.
But after emergency talks over the weekend all 63 clubs are now committed to the move and will join Bonnyton Thistle, Drumchapel United, St Cadocs and Glasgow University in the new-look league.
McKenna said: “We signed up to the move together so after a weekend of phone calls and conference calls we decided it best to stick together. Now is the time to move forward.”
The three conferences were formalised based on the final standings of the west region divisions in the season which was brought to an early halt last month.
A spokesman for the new league said: “We can now all get on with our plans to make a huge success of our league.”
