West of Scotland league 'a major step forward' as Gartcairn target League Two future

Airdrie juniors Gartcairn back heaped praise on the plans for a new tier six in the Scottish football leagues.

Members from the Lowland, East of Scotland and South of Scotland Leagues met with West Region Juniors leaders have agreed to a conference style 'tier six'.

This will allow clubs the chance to reach the Lowland League, and then the SPFL, while still holding the right to participate in the Scottish Junior Cup.

In a club statement, the MTC Park outfit said: "Gartcairn Football Club are delighted to confirm application has been made to join the proposed new West of Scotland football league with access to the pyramid through the Lowland League.

"We see this as a major step forward and an ambitious step by all the teams involved.

"We will also be keeping our Junior Association Membership going which if rules can be changed will allow us to continue to participate in the prestigious Scottish Junior Cup.

"The move forward follows Gartcairn's ambitions as we aim for licence for MTC Park to allow us to progress and help us with pyramid set up."
