West Midland Safari Park partially reopens

One of the West Midlands' most popular zoos is reopening this week after receiving the go ahead from the Government.

West Midland Safari Park will allow visitors to drive through the estate in Bewdley from today but areas that visitors would normally access on foot will remain shut.

This includes rides such as Adventure Theme Park and Boj Giggly and exhibits including the Land of the Living Dinosaurs.

The company confirmed safety measures would be in place and it was awaiting clarification from the Government surrounding when others parts could reopen.

Visitors numbers will be limited and guests are being asked to pre-book tickets online which are also discounted due to the park being only partially open.

The reopening comes as West Midland Safari Park welcomes Chris Kelly as its new chief executive, replacing Darren Chorley who has been at the attraction for almost three decades.

Mr Kelly is stepping up from his role as accommodation and venues director which he started in January.

A spokesperson said: "As a major family attraction here in the West Midlands, we are delighted that safari parks and zoos have the go-ahead to reopen and for us that will be June 15.

"It will be fantastic for families when we reopen but we will be doing so with various safety measures in place.

"We will only be opening our drive-through facility so guests can enjoy seeing our animals again, including our growing lion cubs.

"Our park rides and walk-through exhibits will remain closed as we await further clarification from the Government.

"However, we believe this will happen very soon but with strict social distancing measures in place."
