West Lothian youngster Jayden Fairley nets 40-yard stunner for Scotland under-17s

West Lothian’s Jayden Fairely scored a 40-yard screamer as Scotland’s under-17 side kicked-off their Euro 2020 qualifying bid in style.

The 16-year-old former Blackburn United Community player, who is currently on the books at Hibernian, netted the second in a 2-0 win over Armenia in Stirling.

Brian McLaughlin’s side took the lead inside eight minutes when Kevin Hanratty’s shot parried into the path of Dundee United kid Chris Mochrie to slot home.

But Fairley stole the show at Forthbank with a 58th-minute thunderbolt the keeper could not get near at full stretch.

Iceland are next up on Friday before Croatia three days later as the young Scots eye a place in the elite round, from which they can reach the finals in Estonia.
