West Lothian woman's fundraiser for schoolboy who drowned at weekend

A West Lothian woman has is raising money to help with the funeral costs of a little boy who drowned at the weekend.

Dean Irvine (11), from Hamilton, had been playing with friends in the water at Alexander Hamilton Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon before getting into difficulty.

He was pulled from the water after emergency services rushed to the area but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Family friend Marina Weir, who stays in Livingston, has launched a Gofundme page to hire a hire a Bugatti for the day as the schoolboy loved cars.

The money will also be put towards his funeral.

She said on the page: “Unfortunately my best friend’s son sadly lost his life, wee Dean who was 11 years of age.

“We are looking to raise as much money as possible to hire a Bugatti for the day and help towards the funeral to give Dean the best send off as possible and the best memorial

“Wee Dean was the most amazing little man and was always happy no matter what.

“Please any sort of help would be nice and we would appreciate all the help from everyone

“We love you so much Dean - fly high handsome boy.”

Tributes to Dean from his heartbroken family were led by his aunt, Jade Law, who wrote: “Dean, you were SO loved I hope you know how much. I am so sorry this terrible accident happened to you.

“I hope you’re looking down on your mummy, daddy, all of your siblings and the rest of the family. We all love you so much.

“Doesn’t feel real at all, there are no words to explain how we feel, you were my first born nephew and always will be. Your cheeky little grin will be remembered forever.

“Rest in peace gorgeous boy, you were taken far too soon from us. Auntie Jade loves you forever wee Dean.”
