West Lothian woman arrested trying to break into pub armed with knife and can of petrol

A woman has been arrested after allegedly attempting to break into a West Lothian pub armed with a knife and can of petrol.

Officers raced tot he scene at Cross Tavern bar on Wednesday, July 21 at around 4:00pm following a series of calls from locals with concerns over her behaviour.

Edinburgh Live report that panicked eyewitnesses seen the woman acting erratically in the East Main Street and Manse Road areas of Whitburn before triggering an emergency response.

One told how she could be seen holding a petrol can while outside the pub, while also being in possession of the weapon - which was later seized.

Police shut down the area for a brief period while the 40-year-old was apprehended by several officers.

Officers reassured the public no one was harmed as a result of the incident.

She was arrested and charged and is now due to appear in court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called around 4.55pm on Wednesday, 21 July, 2021 following the report of a woman in possession of an offensive weapon on East Main Street, Bathgate.

“Officers attended and a 40-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection and is due to appear at court at a later date.”
