West Lothian van bursts into flames as fire crews race to extinguish blaze

A van burst into flames on a busy West Lothian street, with emergency services rushing to the scene.

The van caught fire on West Main Street, Armadale, around 12:35pm on Friday afternoon, September 2, with a dramatic image from the scene showing black smoke billowing into the air following the sudden blaze.

The van, understood to be a work van, was parked on the side of the road with nothing but the shell of the vehicle remaining after the terrifying fire. The Record reports that the area was cordoned off while fire crews extinguished the blaze.

It is understood that there were no injuries following the incident, with the emergency services leaving shortly after 2pm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted to a vehicle on fire on West Main Street in Armadale at around 12.38pm on Friday, September 2.

"We sent two appliances to the scene and left the scene once the area was made safe at 2pm."

Police Scotland confirmed they were called to the scene to assist fire crews. It is not yet know what started the blaze.
