Covid cases rise to make West Lothian most infectious area in Scotland

West Lothian is top of the infection rate table for Scotland.

The latest figures from Public Health Scotland show the seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, West Lothian is the highest rate in the country – at 478.2, compared to 319.8 for the rest of the country.

Some 879 new cases recorded were recorded in the county over the same period - however the seven-day test positivity rate has actually dropped over recent days.

In terms of vaccinations, the most recent figures show 135,293 first doses have now been administered (73.89 per cent of people in West Lothian) and 127,905 doses (69.85 per cent) have been given.

The areas with the highest rates of new infections are: Howden (58), East Calder (36), Carmondean and Eliburn North (36), , Bathgate West and Bathgate (33), Armadale South (32) , Uphall, Dechmont and Ecclesmachan (32) and Wester Inch and Inchcross (30).

No deaths have been recorded over the last seven days.
