West Lothian to see three brand new schools built as council approves £60 million project

West Lothian is set to see three brand new schools built over the next few years after an agreement was reached between the council and a local contractor.

Plans to build a primary and two new secondary schools in Winchburgh have been approved, with work to begin in August, according to Scottish Construction Now.

The £60.5 million project will house over 1500 pupils in total, alongside a new set of sports pitches and 25m swimming pool.

Set to open in 2023, the two high schools will share the new PE block, with one school, Sinclair Academy, being run as denominational and the other, Winchburgh Academy, non-denominational.

Winchburgh itself is currently one of three main areas for development for the West Lothian Council, who have also given the green light for a large number of new homes to be built by 2030.

Speaking about the project, Councillor David Dodds, executive councillor for education in West Lothian Council, added: “This is a significant step forward in what is an enormous investment in education within West Lothian and the local economy, as a whole. We are delighted that significant progress is being made on this ambitious programme.

“The new schools and facilities will provide local people with fantastic facilities for generations to come and we’re very proud to delivering this project."
