West Lothian teenager Megan Black nominated for BBC Radio Scotland's Singer/Songwriter Award

A teenager from West Lothian is in the running for a prestigious musical award from BBC Radio Scotland.

Megan Black, 19, is looking for votes  in the Singer/Songwriter Award, up against nine rivals.

She reached the final 10 with her original solo composition Fur Coat Queen.

Megan, from Livingston, says she's a musician and vocalist and is influenced by 70s blues rock and early jazz.

Her songs are based on her own life experiences and political thoughts, the West Lothian Courier reports.

She said: "I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be in the top 10. I can’t believe how much support I have received for the song so far, thank you to everyone who has voted.

"I started playing gigs when I was only 15. I base my songs around my own experiences, political views and what is going on in the world.

"For example, ‘Fur Coat Queen’ is based around me familiarising myself with my own sexuality and as a result of that, finding empowerment from other women."
