West Lothian supermarket colleagues raise over £4000 for charity

Generous colleagues and customers at Aldi stores in Bathgate and Linlithgow have joined forces to raise over £4100 for the Teenage Cancer Trust as part of the supermarket’s efforts to raise £300,000 in Scotland for the charity over five years.

Staff at the Gardners Lane store in Bathgate took part in a variety of fundraising initiatives over the last six months to help raise vital funds, including organising a Halloween Horror event and an in-store Mexican Fiesta.

Meanwhile, staff member Diane Kirk at Aldi on Falkirk Road in Linlithgow completed the West Highland Way in an impressive 62 and a half hours, raising an impressive £390 for charity.

Since January 2017, the supermarket’s 86 stores across Scotland have helped raise over £200,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

This year, as Aldi celebrates its 25th anniversary in Scotland, one hundred staff are taking part in Kiltwalks across the country to raise even more money for charity.

The push from colleagues and customers in Scotland has also helped Aldi hit the UK-wide fundraising milestone of £3 million much earlier than expected, after beginning the partnership in January 2017 and reaching £2m towards the end of last year.

Laura Pearce, Head of Corporate Development for Teenage Cancer Trust said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the passionate and enthusiastic support that Aldi’s team and customers are giving to young people with cancer.

“Hitting the £200,000 mark in Scotland is a tremendous achievement and is a fantastic contribution to the incredible £3 million raised UK-wide so far by Aldi as part of our partnership together.

“The money raised by Aldi staff and customers in Scotland will help to provide over 6,000 hours of specialist care that will make a huge difference to the lives of so many young people with cancer.”

Richard Holloway, Regional Managing Director for Aldi Scotland, added: “It’s been fantastic to see our staff and members of the local community coming together to support Teenage Cancer Trust, and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to support so many young people facing cancer.

“During our 25th anniversary year in Scotland, our teams across the country will continue to come up with even more creative new ways to raise funds and help us edge even closer to our £300,000 target.”

Teenage Cancer Trust delivers world-class cancer care and support to young people diagnosed with cancer aged 13 to 24.

The charity works in partnership with the NHS to provide highly-trained expert staff and specialist cancer units in NHS hospitals across the UK.
