West Lothian street closed off by police after man with knife seen at post office

Police have charged a man in West Lothian after reports of a person with a knife at a post office.

Officers closed off the road outside the post office at Boghall Convenience Store on Elizabeth Drive, Bathgate on Tuesday evening.

A large number of officers were seen in the area.

Posts on social media said a man armed with a knife had attempted to rob the post office, however it's understood no robbery took place.

No-one is thought to have been hurt in the incident.

Police Scotland said a 42-year-old man had been arrested.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Police in West Lothian have arrested and charged a 42-year-old man after officers were called to a report of a man in possession of a knife within a premises in Elizabeth Drive, Boghall at around 7pm on Tuesday 21 May.

"No-one was injured as a result.

"The man is expected to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court on Wednesday 22 May."
