West Lothian sporting legend dies

One of the most renowned figures within sport in West Lothian has sadly passed away.

Grand Master Sheena Sutherland from Bathgate was only the second female worldwide to be honoured as a Taekwon-do 9th Degree Grand Master.

The award was the culmination of forty years dedicated to the sport which began when she started training locally in 1974. Sheena said this award was her pinnacle and spoke of the achievement fondly until her last days.

Her many achievements include founding the United Kingdom Tae Kwon-Do Federation (1987), ITF Scotland 1997, founding member of Scottish Council of Tae Kwon- Do and the Outstanding Instructor Medal award presented by General Choi Hong Hi 1994 in Malaysia.

Her death was announced on the Facebook page, Grand Master Sutherland’s Martial Arts, and they said that Sheena requested no tears and only a celebration of her life. Also as per Sheena’s last wishes they said there will be no funeral service and they will be releasing no more information.
