West Lothian seven-year-old uses pocket money to buy Christmas gifts for care home residents

A West Lothian schoolgirl has melted the hearts of care home residents this year after she saved her pocket money to buy them presents.

Ebony Fraser, seven, came up with the idea to try and cheer up the older people in her area after a difficult year.

As Christmas approached, Ebony, from Livingston, asked her mum if they could try and do something to help.

With care homes currently facing restrictions around visitations, many will be unable to spend time with their family this year.

Ebony's mum Nicola told the Daily Record why the kind-hearted little girl decided to buy the presents:

"We had been watching the news and seeing what was going on recently at schools and at nursing homes, and Ebony just turned around and said she wanted to help.

“She said to me ‘Mummy, I have a really good idea, why don’t we use the money in my piggy bank and get these people presents?’”

“So, we went down to the local supermarket and bought chocolates, boxes of biscuits and Ebony has been drawing pictures for them too.”

After coming up with the idea, the Bellsquarry Primary School pupil dropped off the gifts at Limecroft Care Home in Dedridge, Woodlands Nursing Home in Dedridge, and Burngrange Care Home in West Calder.

Extremely proud of her daughter's 'santa run', Nicola added: “It’s just nice for her to get to do her own wee bit to help.”
