West Lothian schoolboy goes for the chop after growing hair for three years

A schoolboy who has been growing his hair for the past three years finally went for the chop so he could help children fighting cancer other serious illness.

Arran MacMillan had 15 inches cut off his hair which he donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for youngsters who have lost their hair due to treatment.

He unveiled his dramatic new look after having his hair cut at Rogues and Rascals on Broxburn Main Street.

And his bravery paid off, as he has also raised over £500 for the charity.

His mum Abi said the whole family is proud of her son and said he’s loving his new hairdo.

She said: “He’s had so many messages of support, it’s really spurred him on.

“He’s not the most confident of boys and hasn’t had an easy time at school so it’s nice to see him so pleased and confident with himself.

“He had mentioned cutting his hair off last year but backed out at the last minute! This time he said from the start ‘I want to help people and get my hair cut to make wigs’.

“We found the Little Princess Trust and he was pleased he’d be helping children. I had literally just been going to send in £20 with his hair then thought it would be great to get family behind him, then friends too.

“Before we knew it had grown arms and legs and teachers were asking to donate, hence the just giving page!

“It is estimated that a wig costs £550 to make so he’s almost there.”
