West Lothian school pupils spotted on busy M8 as police issue danger warning

Police in West Lothian say they've received numerous reports of youngsters on the M8 near Whitburn.

Officers are concerned a child could be seriously injured should this "dangerous activity" continue. They say school age children have been spotted in the road between junction 4A Heartlands and Junction 4 Whitburn.

A number of the young people have already been traced and spoken to by police, but efforts are ongoing to highlight the dangers of this behaviour.

Pupils at Whitburn Academy will also be spoken to in the coming days.

Officers want people to spread word of a social media post on the West Lothian Police Facebook page which reads: "We have been particularly concerned this week after a number of calls about young people being on the M8 motorway between J4a Heartlands and junction 4 Whitburn.

"We have traced and spoken to a number of them but are asking that you spread the message as widely as possible before someone gets seriously injured.

"Our school based officer at Whitburn Academy will be talking to pupils and staff in the coming days and between us, we can stop this dangerous activity."
