West Lothian school closes entirely due to 'concerning' coronavirus outbreak

A West Lothian school has been shut due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

Parents have been told that Peel Primary will shut for a week and remote learning will be put back in place to prevent any further spread of the virus.

The parents council released the news online last night.

Speaking to The Courier today, a West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Parents were informed over the weekend that due to staff requiring to self-isolate, all classes in P1 to P7 at Peel Primary will revert to remote learning from today until Friday.

“The school will reopen on Monday 29 March in line with public health advice. The school will communicate with parents/carers on remote learning plans.”

The Livingston school initially reported only a small number of confirmed cases last week and said the school would stay open - however, cases in the town are now increasing at a 'concerning' rate.

The latest Public Health Scotland information revealed that infections in West Lothian are now the highest in Scotland - with cases mainly centred in Livingston.

A new emergency UK Government mobile testing centre is in Livingston this week to try and stop the virus from spreading further by testing those without symptoms.
