West Lothian school children plant a wee forest to help combat climate change

Schoolchildren in Whitburn dug deep to help the environment and help people get closer to nature.

The kids joined locals at the Wee Forest Planting Event, held recently between Polkemmet and St Joseph’s Primary Schools.

Wee Forests in Scotland are part of the global family of ‘Miyawaki Forests’ or ‘Tiny Forests’ found all over the world.

They are small, tennis court-sized woodlands that help mitigate the effects of climate change, support urban wildlife and reconnect people with nature.

A network of ‘Wee Forests’ will be planted in towns and cities across Scotland as part of the legacy of the Cop26 climate change summit which was held in Glasgow last year.

This winter, 20 densely packed areas of woodland will be planted in urban environments in a £500,000 scheme by the Scottish government.
