West Lothian's Five Guys restaurant gets drinks and takeaway licence

Five Guys, West Lothian’s newest burger restaurant, has been granted a premises licence by the council’s Licensing Board.

The burger chain, which has 12 restaurants in Scotland, opened their first West Lothian restaurant in the former Ask Italian premises at 340 The Elements in Livingston’ s town centre in September.

Jackie Brodie, a solicitor with the chain’s agents Brodie’s Solicitors told the Licensing Board: “For those unfamiliar, Five Guys offer burgers, hot dogs. fries sandwiches and a small offering of bottled beer.”

The Livingston restaurant currently offers Corona Extra, Budweiser and Brooklyn Lager. The restaurant has been working under occasional licences since it opened and there have been no issues or adverse comments, the board was told.

Seasonal variations have been included in the licence, so it can take advantage of extended hours at Christmas and New Year. The outdoor area will only be in use until 9pm daily, in line with standard West Lothian rules. The licence also covers delivery services which come through Deliveroo. Alcohol can only be served with a meal either in the restaurant or through takeaway

Area Manager Mike Clarke assured Councillor Alison Adamson that the outdoor area is separated by barrier from the main access to the restaurant - which can seat 80

Punters can choose from 250,000 possible combinations with Five Guys’ burgers, made from locally sourced beef, with thousands of combinations also available on their milkshakes.

Five Guys was established in 1986 by the Murrell family in Virginia and launched in the UK in 2013, opening in Covent Garden, London on American Independence Day- 4 July .
