West Lothian's army of volunteers is thanked for work during Covid crisis

West Lothian Council has paid tribute to the efforts of the Third Sector for the work of volunteers during the Covid-19 outbreak.

A motion by Councillor Kirsteen Sullivan was agreed paying tribute to the “invaluable contribution made in responding to the needs of our communities” was backed at a meeting of the full council.

Cllr Sullivan, the executive councillor for voluntary organisations said in her motion: “The voluntary Sector Gateway and the West Lothian Social Enterprise Network, along with local charities, social enterprises community groups and individuals have acted with incredible agility and flexibility to support  West Lothian citizens at a time of unprecedented need and stress.”

 

She added that the council  “acknowledged the  commitment of the Third Sector to partnership working  with the council and others.”
Joint projects included the provision and delivery of PPE to carers as well as distributing hot meals and food, and providing childcare for  key workers.
The motion concluded: “Council commends the Third Sector on its efforts and ongoing support and expresses gratitude to all those who have come forward to offer assistance.”
